On this page are some of the people I have met and talked with whilst out in the Peak District. There is also a Facebook page peopleofthepeak
Saturday April 2nd 2017 Alport Castles, Dark Peak, Peak District National Park
Roger, Gill, Lynn, Keith, Steve, Ann at Rowlee Pastures heading for Westend
David and Diana at Alport Castles heading for Alport hamlet
Sean and Keith at Alport Castles heading for Westend. Keith has the best hat I have seen in many a year. The kind of hat a mother would knit
Friday 7th April Alport Valley and Westend Moor, Dark Peak, Peak District National Park
Patch, Sam and Roger in the Alport Valley. I was a little suprised to see anyone at all. These two gentlemen are members of Glossop Mountain Rescue. The lovely dog is the one called Roger. You just cannot beat that.
Malcolm above Glethering Clough. He really wanted to be back in the Karakorams
Sunday 16th April Derwent Village and Pike Lowe, Dark Peak, Peak District National Park
I met Paul walking along Derwent Lane through the old Part of Derwent village. He was a mad keen walker and knew a lot of areas. Lovely chap. We had a discussion about bikes on footpaths, when along came a cyclist telling us about a car abandoned almost in Howden reservoir.
I met Louisa and Phil near Pike Low above Derwent. Louisa is from Australia where it doesn’t rain as much as in the Dark Peak she told me.
May 2nd Derwent Edge, Dark Peak, Peak District National Park
For some reason lots of people from Manchester on the hills today. This is Jeff, Julia, Mark and Helen who I met on Green Sitches. I liked the old Mountain Equipment jat that Julia had on.
Another Manchester group this time at Back Tor. Had a long and lovely talk about everything outdoors. Susan, John, Ann, Roger and Badger the dog. I thought Roger a dead ringer for Mike Parsons of Karrimor.
Eddie and Jane sheltering from the wind at Back Tor.
Saturday 13th May Birchinlee Pastures and Bridge-end Pasture
Lucy and Rachel heading for Alport Castles. Kinder Scout in the future they said. Lovely chat with two lovely people.
This is Yuky in training for an ultra marathon along Hadrians Wall. He had set off from Fox House and was heading to Bleaklow then return via Kinder. That is some run.
22nd May White Peak East book walk around Eyam
I met Tim and Meg on the closed road to Eyam. A former Sheffield lad Tim had escaped to live in Eyam. I do not know where Meg (the dog) came from.
I met this group down at Stoke Ford. They were all full of laughter. Many were from the Jaguar Land Rover plant and were enjoying a day out in the White Peak. A great set of people.
1st June White Peak East book walk Bradwell to Offerton
Fleur and Mick on the Byway by Abbey Moor. Both wanting to explore the Dark Peak more. Lovely chat with two wonderful people. Mick once chatted with a stranger for 90 minutes, which is no surprise Fleur and Mick were both very engaging and full of life.
23rd June Hope Forest
Jim and John enjoying a brew in Oyster Clough cabin which is sadly showing signs of the wrong kind of attention.
24th June Hagg Farm
Debbie and Michelle on the bridleway near Hagg Farm. I had a lovely chat with these two ladies about proper walking on proper moors. They were both so full of life. Marvellous.
19th August Lockerbrook
Tim and Stacy on the Ouzelden track. Stopped in their tracks by Scout who wanted his ear scratching.
19th August Haggwater Bridge
Andy and Natalie about to take on Win Hill in the rain and wind and sun. They were at the bottom of The Beast when I took this photo.
13th October Cressbrook Dale
Jill and Annie high above Cressbrook Dale and walking White to Dark. They had taken an unplanned detour from the bottom path up to the top and then had to return back down again. Often the way. Scout photo bombed the shot as he liked the ladies. He is a good judge of character, they were both lovely.
20th October Water cum Jolly
I met Bernadette and John today on the footpath leading down to Water Cum Jolly from Millers Dale. It is always so pleasing to stop and have a chat and a laugh with lovely people and Bernadette and John were way up on the scale of loveliness. They were doing a CAMRA walk, I never knew there was such a thing, but it sounds wonderful.
Here is Sam, who I found hanging about down Water Cum Jolly. Sam is one of those young people I love to meet, full of confidence, intelligence and life. Exactly how it should be.
